I never took you for granted
And knew that in my heart
The two of you would always belong
...But all too suddenly I turned
And you were gone.
How can I ever express the love
That I feel for you in my heart
Love that will never fade away
Though we had to part.
I do not yet know the answer
But I will do what I must do
To carry on as you would wish
And as you taught me to do.
And someday we will meet again
On that Heavenly shore
Where our love will not have diminished
But we will love each other even more.

Beautiful words. Yes, we don't always appreciate our parents or at least express our appreciation until it's too late. All too true.
